h'lo all, particularly MacHigway support folks,

I'm a 25 yr. Mac vet (all on the music side) that's *desperately* trying to get a website built & up & running. I've got a perhaps somewhat unique situation here and I'm hoping that MacHighway will be the answer for me....(somethin's gotta be....)

The problem is that the site I'm trying to build is loaded with a lot of high-quality video...and it *needs* to be. It's a site for my wife, a professional copywriter and it will be a showcase of her work. It will contain a lot of very expensively produced video work and the folks that will be looking at it - her perspective employers - will be expecting just that....

Having said, this is my first-ever attempt at building a website. Though I'm pretty Mac-saavy, I'm running in to loads of new concepts and terminology that are foreign to me and, in the case of iWeb, not at all well explained by Apple.

So I need a "partner" in this endeavor. I'm more than willing to spend time plowing thru FAQ's & Knowledgebases, but in the end, I can usually make loads more progress if I can spend 10 min. on the phone with a truly Mac-saavy human being.

I guess my (first) question is, "is that you guys? (MacHighway)" Can I really ring you up with a load of questions and get answers? In english? I really hope so, I really need to get this site up, get the wife off my back (!) and get back to writin' some beautiful music!!

thanks,

b myers, composer

Hi, Williemyers

MacHighway is really only a web hosting company. MacHighway's Excellent technical support team are really only around to help with server issues and configuration issues.

The MacHighway forums and the Internet in general is a great place to find answers to your web related in enquiries if you have a reasonable good knowledge of apple computers and a decent tech know-how most people with a little help cam ran their own website but if you do not feel comfortable you may be better off finding a website design company that may do it all for you or can help with some of the bigger technical issues.

Anyway here is a bit of a suggestion on what you would probably need:

You would need a domain name if you have not ready registered a domain name, One year is given free when you register a MacHighway hosting account for one year. if you already have a domain name you can very easily map it to MacHighway servers.

You would need a hosting account with MacHighway I would recommend a least the small hosting package or higher for your needs but the small package should be more than sufficient.

Software for the actual physical website:

I would use WordPress for the website I would most likely use YouTube or Vimeo for the video embed's as running your own custom HTML 5 or Flash Player or using QuickTime embed code can be very difficult you also get the added benefit that you do not have to host the large video files yourself.

Not yet a MacHighway customer? If you found my comments or posts helpful please consider using my affiliate link (https://customers.machighway.com/aff.php?aff=280). it is completely optional but really does help.
