    Image CMS

We're wanting to have a photo gallery on our site, but are unsure which image gallery option (i.e. 4images, Coppermine, Gallery, Piwigo, Pixelpost, ZenPhoto) to use. Is there a site that can explain in layman/newbie terms what the differences are between them? Or can anyone share their experience with getting them up and running?

Right now we're leaning towards Zen, but are a bit wary that it may be limiting down the road.

We're comfortable with HTML, and are learning CSS and likely Javascript, if that's a factor.

    Thanks!

If you're ready running a CMS such as WordPress you may want to have a look at plug-ins I know there are several good photo gallery plug-ins for WordPress and there would be for similar solutions such as Drupal, Joomla!. Some of the options you have mentioned above also can be integrated with other solutions very easily.

Probably not for all of them you may find some that are comparing one to another, Personally I would just set up a subdomain I use "sandbox" then I would just install all the options in separate directories for that sub domain and test them all out.

I have installed Coppermine and Gallery a few times before you just download the package from their websites upload it to a directory and then visit the URL it should take you to the installation script for the 1st time and you normally just need to choose a name username password and connected to your MySQL database.

that would be then your 1st option for installation into your test area.

Probably won't help you much as these packages are pretty much pre-developed. But those skills will come in handy if you need to modify the theme files for these programs.
