I can't change my site domain's NS delegation, due to other services tied to the domain, but I can point a DNS A record for my domain to machighway. Can I still use MacHighway hosting?

Hello,
You can, but doing this greatly limits the support that we can give you if things stop working, as it could be tied to DNS settings that we have no control over.
Tyler
Are you currently a customer of ours? If so, please open a support ticket and we can let you know the IP address of the server you're on and you can you change the A record with Microsoft.
If you're not a customer yet, you will want to first sign up with us. You will be asked what you want to do with your domain name on the next page. Select: I will use a domain name that's already registered.
Once we've approved your order, we'll send you out your server name. If you're unable to determine the IP address from that domain name, just pop us over an email and we'll be happy to give you that IP address so you can update your A Record with Microsoft.

I'm a customer already, so I'll open a ticket. Thanks!
packetguy, is very easy to do this just log into your cPanel for the hosting account you wish to point your domain name to and on the left sidebar look for the shared IP address for the server. You will use this to make your A records.
I normally use in a record for the naked domain "example.com" then I make a CNAME for "www" which you would usually used the domain name instead of an IP address "example.com"
The next bit is a little complicated if you're using subdomains like "subdomains1.example.com" and "subdomains2.example.com" if you're going to use them on the one server MacHighway I would consider using a wild card a record for your domain name.
if you have subdomains that need to point to other servers you may want to consider creating A records for each subdomain. That needs to go elsewhere and the ones that need to point to MacHighway servers.
You could also just use a records for the ones that need to go elsewhere [not MacHighway servers] and a wild card a record that points to MacHighway servers.
Remember you are now responsible to make sure your domain name is always pointing to MacHighway servers extremely rare but sometimes the shared IP address for a server may need to be expired or changeed. sometimes you also might be migrated to a new server you are responsible to make sure the a record is kept up-to-date as you're not using MacHighway's name servers which would normally automatically do this for you.
You'll want to check with MacHighway technical support to find out if they notify you of such change's.

Kyle,
Thanks for that info. I'll try it out. Microsoft Office 365 hosts the DNS for packetguy.com, but I have full access to creating DNS A and CNAME records. I also run my own DNS servers, so I'm fully qualified in DNS admin
My MH domain is unrelated to the one that I want to add as a second site. I see how your approach would work, though. It's clever! I'll give it a shot today.
packetguy,
I need to do a similar thing as I use Google apps and a backup e-mail server service just in case.
Excellent that's good to know, Sometimes it's hard to judge people skill's level so I find it easier to explain everything. Sounds like you've got a bit of experience and know what you're doing so you should be okay.
