    Help "synching" Machighway with iWeb

I had Machichway using my iWeb perfectly.

I just upgraded to LION OS and my iWeb files are gone.

How do I "sync" my Machichway website with my iWeb? (so I don't have to re-create the entire website again on iWeb)

    Thanks.

Unfortunately looks like I'm going to be bearer of bad news there is no way to get your website back into iWeb from the content that you have uploaded to MacHighway servers

iWeb's content is originally stored in /Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb/ in a special database file called "Domain" this file is used to generate HTML code which is uploaded to a web host when publishing from iWeb.

Unfortunately your only option is to back up the files from MacHighway servers using an FTP client and downloading the relevant directory of HTML files.

if you wanted to use iWeb again you would need to manually copy all the content and the look and feel back into a new iWeb website. Personally I would not recommend doing this as I would bet a lot of money on the fact that Apple will discontinue iWeb

I recommended to a lot of people in my Apple User Group that they seriously look at WordPress over another visual website design program such as RapidWeaver or Sandvox.

WordPress is primarily designed to be a blogging platform but makes a great content management system and they even allow you to remove the blogging section if you don't wish to use it.

if you have any questions about this further I would be happy to help.

    Thank you

So which would be the best App to load on my Mac to design a website that would be the easiest to link with my MacHighway account?

I guess once I used that App to redesign my simple website, the folks at MacHighway could/would just use my same paid/registered domain name and just replace the old website from iWeb, with my new one from the App which you recommend.

    P.S.

I am not computer-savvy, so I need a really easy Mac-friendly Web-App to use and easily link to MacHighway for publishing. (iWeb wasn't easy to link to MacHighway without tech-help)

    Thanx in advance.

Unfortunately I'm unable to make that decision for you I've giving you suggestions on programs you can run on your Mac above and I've given you my recommendation of WordPress.

Regarding the programs you run on your Mac I'm not a fan of these such programs but I'm pretty sure both of them offer some kind of trial system.

Yes technical support should be able to help you just let them know what you are trying to do and they should be able to delete all your files in your "public_html" directory.

Regarding WordPress it's very easy-to-use the hardest part is the installation you edit your website in a normal web browser very similar to how you made a post on this forum.

if you e-mail technical support I'm sure they would be willing to help you set up an installation or may even do it for you I would get them to set up in a separate directory 1st so you can have a play with it to see if it'll do what you want to do if you are at all interested.

Have you looked at Rapid Weaver? With iWeb out of the picture - that would be the next best thing where an application is concerned. You can get it at realmacsoftware.com. It's a pretty popular (and well supported) alternative. Mac highway offer uploading instructions for it too.
