Web Hosting is a very power intensive industry. We have many servers, routers, and monitors - all running 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. On top of that we have heating and cooling to maintain optimum temperatures, as well as humidity control systems and lighting. This takes a lot of electricity. That electricity has to come from somewhere. In the past the traditional source of power has been coal burning power plants that chug a large amount of CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) into the air (not to mention a lot of other noxious chemicals). We couldn't justify that anymore.

That's why MacHighway has partnered with Renewable Choice Energy to provide our servers, network centers, and offices with electricity generated by wind power. No, this doesn't mean if the wind stops blowing your site goes down, but rather we purchased credits from wind energy producers to ensure that there is enough wind power added to the power grid to replace what we use to power our entire business.

Why are we buying Renewable Energy?

Energy Independence:  Supporting the growth of renewable energy increases America's energy independence. As the diversity of the energy supply increases, so does our independence and security as a nation.

Clean Air: The average commuter car emits about 3,400 pounds of carbon dioxide into the air each year. In contrast, the annual amount of coal that is burned for the average home in the United States puts about 16,000 pounds of carbon dioxide into our air. It would take almost 3 acres of fully mature trees to soak up that much carbon dioxide.

Economic Stimulus for Agriculture: By purchasing wind power, we are supporting the construction of new wind farms, which help revitalize rural communities. These wind farms not only clean the air, but they bring jobs and additional revenue to farmers.
