Support Topics: Message Boards & Forums: How to: Setup IkonBoard

What you would use this for: To provide an organized online discussion area for registered users of your site.

IMPORTANT SECURITY WARNING: Adding scripts to your site is a security risk no matter where it is hosted. Hackers frequently exploit security holes in blogs and Content Management System (CMS), regardless of who you host your site with. This could mean severe damage to your website and other websites on the server. MacHighway recommends that you frequently check ikonboard.com (external link) for updates to your blog system.

What You Need:
An FTP client (Transmit - external link)
A text editor (TextWrangler - external link)
An activated CGI-BIN folder in your "public_html" directory on your site. (if you don't already have one setup for your site, please request one)

1. Go to http://www.ikonboard.com/ (external link) and download the latest Ikonboard installation package from the downloads section. In this example, we're using the .zip download. The file will download as ib followed by a version number and ending with a .zip extension. We'll refer to this as the ib.zip file.

2. If the installation package doesn't expand automatically, double click the ib.zip file. This should force the compressed ib.zip to expand into a folder that begins with the letters "ib", followed by a version number. We'll refer to this folder as the ib folder from now on.

3. Navigate into your ib folder and find a folder called Upload_Files folder

4. There will be two folders here. We're looking at the cg-bin folder for now. Rename this folder. The names "forums", "boards", "ib" are a few examples of what you might name that folder. For this example we'll use the folder name ib. Once that is done upload the ib folder to your public_html/cgi-bin on the server.

5. Change the permissions on the ib folder you just uploaded to 755. To do this using Transmit, highlight the folder and press command + i. In the window that pops up, type 755 into the bottom field or check all of the boxes on the top row and the first and last boxes on the remaining rows.

6. Select the cgi files ikonboard.cgi & installer.cgi and set permissions to 755.

7. Navigate into the INSTALL_DATA folder. Select all files inside (command + a) and set their permissions to 755.

8. Navigate into the install_modules directory. Highlight everything inside it set permissions to 755.

9. Navigate back out to your public_html folder.

10. Select the iB_html folder , which is inside your ib/Upload_Files folder on your hard drive, and upload it into the public_html area of your web space.

11. Highlight the iB_html folder and set permissions to 755.

12. Navigate inside your iB_html folder. Select the directory inside it (uploads) and set permissions to 755.

13. Using your web browser visit the location you placed Ikonboard with the addition of installer.cgi, e.g. http://www.examplesite.com/cgi bin/ib/installer.cgi

14. For further install information we recommend you refer to the installer guide that is included with you Ikonboard installation. ib\Installer_Guide.html
