Site Wide Search Engines

Support Topics: Site Wide Search Engine: User's Guide: Search Queries in ht://Dig

Before you can search, you must have an index database: a set of files that store data about the files to be searched in a special format. ht://Dig search uses this index database, rather than opening each file and checking its data, for speed and flexibility. We will create this database for you upon setting up your site wide search engine. The database is re-indexed on a weekly basis on a pre-set day of the week. You should let us know what day you would like your site to be re-indexed so the latest updates are included in the new index (e.g. if you always update your site on Sunday or over the weekend, you should request your site to be re-indexed on Monday morning).

Once you have an index, you can access it by using a search form (an standard HTML form) for the search. When a visitor types the search terms and clicks the "Submit" button, the browser sends a form action request to ht://Dig which searches the index database for the requested terms, and returns the results in a formatted page. A default form will be loaded to your site once we have setup your site wide search engine.
