About Our Support

This is where we innovate. All hosting providers use pretty much the same systems, the greatest difference between web hosts is their support. When you call us you won't get a phone tree menu or automated system, what you'll get is a real person who has experience and a genuine vested interest in making sure you are well cared for and happy. We all know what it's like to get bad support. We've all had to deal with the cable company or phone company. MacHighway does not do support like they do "support". Email us your questions, or give us a call. You'll see.

Who We Are

MacHighway is a web hosting service designed by Mac users for Mac users. We understand that there is a significant number of Mac users who need quality web hosting. Too many web hosting companies believe that the Mac platform is not worthy of support and altogether disregard the Macintosh enthusiast. That's where we come in.

History:
In late 1995, MacHighway co-founder Chris Graves was approached by friend-of-a-friend who had access to a high-quality Internet connection and was looking for an expert for this new 'Internet' thing. Graves, who's studied computers and computer programming intensely since age 11, immediately signed on with the enthusiasm of a famished lion devouring a hapless gazelle. He bought a modem, got on his PowerMac 7200, scoured this new 'Internet' entity and learned everything there was to know rather quickly.

He started with an idea for setting up an online database for real estate companies -- modest sites to aid realtors and buyers with up-to-date housing information -- but as the internet grew, Graves began to see an increasing demand for hosting web sites as well as a demand to cater specifically to Mac users.

After a tumultuous beginning getting his business off the ground, Graves relied on his rather excellent networking skills and through a series of roundabout connections (metaphorically speaking, picture flying from Philadelphia to Miami with stops in Seattle and Honolulu) he managed to land customers like JVC, the giant electronics company, and case maker extraordinaire, CaseLogic. Thus, MacHighway was born in 1997.

MacHighway has experienced consistent growth ever since. And, to Graves' pride, unlike other companies during the dot-com boom of the late 90's, MacHighway's growth was based on smart business planning, superior technical know-how and excellent customer service. Not because some venture capitalist had stacks of hundred dollar bills sitting on his kitchen table to burn.

And we all know what happened to those dot-coms. Yes, we're looking at YOU, wedidntevenTRYtosellgoodsorservices.com.

ANYway, MacHighway, achieving success, was able to move into custom-built office space just south of downtown Denver. Its layout now peppered with various odds and ends (think of your one quasi-sane packrat aunt that everyone has), including a "Macintosh Museum" exhibiting the first Mac (called, you guessed it, "Macintosh") bought back in 1984, a 3-D puzzle of Elvis' head and several "Think Different" posters featuring the visages of Picasso, Hitchcock and Thomas Edison. All of who would have undoubtedly been Mac users if they weren't dead.

Contributing to MacHighway's success is the bringing on of employees who share Graves' vision of a quality web hosting for the Mac enthusiast, such as the 1999 hiring of Manager of Customer/Technical Support, Tyler Jacobson. A man who not only has superb Mac skills and an exemplary customer service background, but also a real cool diorama of one of the Hanson Brothers from the film "Slap Shot" sitting on a shelf underneath the Hitchcock poster.

Today, MacHighway continues to grow and maintain its pledge of quality web hosting for the Mac aficionado.

Customer Service:
Ever call customer service and get some lackey who has the enthusiasm of an aging tree sloth in 100 percent humidity? Not only does MacHighway NOT have a call-center buffer, but you'd probably get either Graves or Jacobson themselves when you call with a problem or question. It's one of the best perks of having a very thin (if altogether nonexistent) sheet of bureaucracy.

Chances are that we'll not only remember your name, but probably your voice, too. We're THAT personable -- but not in a creepy sort of way. No lengthy, time-consuming recordings, no need to endlessly press "1" or "2" to get remotely close to a customer service department and absolutely NO CHARGE for their expertise. Consider that the next time you call and interrupt Sloth-Man who's only two clicks away from the call center Minesweeper high score.

Our Promise:
We at MacHighway will continue to work diligently to provide you with exemplary support for all of your web hosting needs in a timely manner. Our growth is the result of hard work, a solid business model, top-notch customer service and unmatched expertise with the Mac platform. We are well aware that YOU are the reason we exist. We love you. But, again, not in a creepy way. Please feel free to and let us help you find quality, reasonably priced solutions to all your web-hosting needs.

By the way, no, the "Slap Shot" diorama is not for sale.

Hardware & Software

We provide web hosting services using a variety of systems and Internet standard software. This means you can host a site built on another host right here - on our Mac powered servers. Of course, the opposite is true as well - you can move from us to another host fairly easily, but we're sure you'll stay with us.

The Xserve is Apple's rackmount server using a new architecture featuring faster bus speeds, disk access and RAM. We have stacks of 'em.

Mac OS X Server melds the most popular technologies from the open source community with the latest version of BSD Ñ the long-standing foundation on which the Internet was built.

Apache Web Server is a secure, efficient and extensible server that provides HTTP services in sync with the current HTTP standards.
